Clothing for a first horse riding lesson usually includes comfy sweatpants or leggings but if your child wants to continue their adventure with horse riding, then it’s worth buying specialist equipment. Breeches, besides a helmet, are one of the most important pieces of equipment to buy. Breeches not only give comfort but also can aid the rider’s seat. For a child, they will surely be an important item that is directly connected to visits to a stable and their love for horses!

1. Material pleasant to the child’s skin and damage-resistant

It’s a feature that should be your priority. The fabric of the breeches should be soft, pleasant-to-the-touch, and breathable (if you’re looking for breeches for the spring/summer season). One example of such fabric is softshell. Breeches shouldn’t cause any irritation and are durable to stay good quality for a very long time (even though everyone knows a child and a horse create a distractible duet). Breeches can have either a knee grip – a short reinforcement on the inside of the legs at the knees or a full grip that covers the whole length of the inside of the legs as well as the back where the body touches the saddle. More and more often breeches are being made of elastic fabrics stretchable in four directions – it’s worth choosing such models (often called riding leggings) because they fit perfectly and offer full freedom of movement.
