A single jointed bit is the most popular type of a bit, often called a "simple" one. This model is a delicate bit. The simplest way to put it is that the strength used by the rider is totally transferred onto the horse's muzzle. It is a bit influencing the tongue and the bottom edge of the jaw at the same time putting pressure onto the horse's roof of the mouth. These bits are perfect for young and stubborn horses. You can buy them in two versions as a hollow bit (light) or a full one (heavy). Single jointed bits can also come as eggbutt snaffles (they do not pinch the mouth's corners), flavored (with apple-flavored synthetic materials), rubber (covered with rubber that encourages the horse to chew). A very good bit would be one made of Kaugan that is heavy and usually anatomically shaped and with rings made of stainless steel. A Kaugan bit can also come as an eggbutt snaffle that does not pinch the corners of the mouth.
